My machine was removed or its trial restarted
What counts as a problem, and how to get a review.
KernelMachine is preparing an invite-only beta; no launch date is set. This describes how it works at launch. Join the waitlist
Renters can't choose their machine, so they rely on us to offer only reliable ones. The rule, in one line: a machine goes live after a clean 2-day trial (none with 8 cards that all pass the check); any problem starts the trial again; 3 problems in 90 days remove it until we review it. We email you each time, with the reason.
What counts as a problem
- A rental didn't get ready within 20 minutes of starting.
- Your machine went offline for 5 minutes during a rental, so the rental moved to another machine.
- A rental stopped running on the machine unexpectedly, for example because the PC restarted.
- A renter pressed "It's broken". This counts only if their account is at least 7 days old, and only once per renter for your machine in 30 days, so one unhappy renter or a throwaway account can't sink you.
- The machine was offline for more than 10 minutes while ready for renters, without Pause on.
What doesn't count
- Time offline while Pause is on, as long as no rental was running.
- Gaps of up to 10 minutes, like a quick restart or a router hiccup, when no rental is running.
- Time while the machine is installing, or restarting for an update we run.
- Time our own servers were down.
Your machines page shows how many problems the machine had in the last 90 days, and the latest one.
My trial restarted
There's nothing to do except avoid the next problem. If nothing else goes wrong, the machine takes rentals again on the date shown on your machines page.
My machine was removed
Reply to the email that told you. If something has changed (a new internet connection, a fixed power supply), say so and we'll look at it with you. Until then it gets no rentals.
Avoiding problems
- Press Pause before you switch off or restart, and wait until no rentals are running. How
- Use a cable rather than Wi-Fi if you can.
- Keep the PC cool. A card that runs hot is slow, and slow cards are hidden until they pass again.
